In Britain we decorate and throw away over 6 million real Christmas trees during the festive season. This ends up producing 9,000 tonnes of waste. This year why not get an artificial tree? This way you can use it year on year, saving the planet and also saving money.
But if you must buy a real tree make sure it is FSC certified. This means that the tree was grown sustainably and didn’t damage the environment. You can also find trees that are approved by the Soil Association which means they are organic and pesticide free.
When you are done with your real tree make sure you get it recycled. Your local council should provide a service to remove and recycle it for free. Then your trees are ground up into wood chips to be made into mulch for gardens and parks.
